Scorpion Cares—the charity arm of Scorpion Design, LLC—is proud to assist in raising support for The Malala Fund, an organization that promotes the education rights of girls around the world. Joined by a group of 30 female lawyers, Attorney Audrey Tolson (http://www.tolsonfirm.com) is spearheading the 30-day initiative to raise $ 276,000, promoting awareness for the tragic abduction of 276 girls from their school in Nigeria last month.
Per The Malala Fund, there are 600 million adolescent girls living in developing countries today. Millions of these young women are unable to advance socially or economically because they are denied the opportunity to receive formal educations. Last month’s kidnapping in Nigeria by Boko Haram, an extremist Islam group, sheds more light on the fears and challenges young women in developing nations face every day.
The Malala Fund is led by a young Pakistani woman named Malala Yousafzai who was shot on October 9, 2012 while taking the bus to school at just 15 years of age. The Taliban gunman who attempted to assassinate Yousafzai sought her out due to her vocal campaigning for female education rights. Today, the 16 year-old Nobel Peace Prize nominee continues to bravely bring attention to this issue. Donations to The Malala Fund are invested in carefully-selected education projects around the world.
Scorpion Design has long been committed to giving back—both locally, as well as to deserving organizations worldwide. They are proud to stand alongside The Tolson Firm in their commendable effort to raise awareness for the tragedy in Nigeria and for girls’ rights around the globe.
